Stylist magazine are searching for the next wave of female film critics to write for their magazine. As part of the Under Her Eye initiative, they will attend screenings and film festivals, as well as write film reviews for Stylist. The prize also includes a Membership Plus card for Picturehouse Cinemas.
Under Her Eye (which nods to The Handmaid’s Tale’s foreboding refrain ‘under his eye’) is their new section dedicated to female-written film reviews. They are now looking for three new critics to join Stylist’s entertainment director Helen Bownass and digital editor Kayleigh Dray.
How do I enter?
Just send a 450-word review of your favourite film, plus a 300-600-word outline detailing why this role is so important to you, to email@example.com by midnight on 31 August.
How will the winner be chosen?
All entries will be assessed by a panel including Stylist editors, film critic Kate Muir, Anna Smith, president of the Critics’ Circle, and Gaylene Gould, head of cinemas and events at BFI Southbank.
A shortlist of 20 entries will then be posted on stylist.link/under-her-eye and put to a public vote in September.
The 10 entries with the most votes will be notified via email and invited to a judging day in London in October.
The three winners will be invited to a photo shoot and mentoring day with the Stylist team in October, before being launched as fully fledged critics across the Stylist platforms at the beginning of November.
As part of the Under Her Eye initiative, they will attend screenings and film festivals, as well as write and publish paid film reviews in Stylist and on stylist.co.uk. The prize also includes a Membership Plus card for Picturehouse Cinemas.
If you love film and want to be heard, now’s your chance to become part of the Stylist team as a film critic.
