God’s Own Country Triumphs At BIFAs 2017

Francis Lee's acclaimed drama wins four awards including Best British Independent Film

Picturehouse send their congratulations to the team behind God’s Own Country which was crowned Best British Independent Film at last night’s British Independent Film Awards.

Josh O’Connor was recognised for his breathtaking performance in the brooding drama with the Best Actor award, while writer-director Francis Lee was awarded Best Debut Screenwriter. The film also triumphed in the Best Sound category.

Look out for more screenings coming to select Picturehouse Cinemas and the film is now available to pre-order on DVD, Blu-ray and Digital.

There was further good news for Picturehouse Entertainment, the distribution arm of Picturehouse, as Patricia Clarkson won Best Supporting Actress for her wickedly funny role in Sally Potter’s The Party.

Lady Macbeth took home five awards – Best Screenplay for Alice Birch, Best Actress for Florence Pugh, Most Promising Newcomer for Naomie Ackie, and Best Cinematography and Best Costume Design – while I Am Not A Witch, took home three – Breakthrough Producer, and both The Douglas Hickox Award (Best Debut Director) and Best Director for Rungano Nyoni.

Jordan Peele’s Get Out won Best International Independent Film.
