The Picturehouse Bar In Stratford-upon-Avon

From short films to live music to poetry readings, check out what you can find in the Stratford-upon-Avon Picturehouse bar

The bar at Stratford-upon-Avon Picturehouse has been privy to a great many extraordinary sights – from short film nights with BAFTA award-winning duo The Brothers McLeod to Q&A sessions with directors and actors, to live music performances from extremely talented bands and poetry readings by published authors. There was even a night when an entire quiche was consumed with a plastic shark instead of a fork.

So here at the SUA Picturehouse we thought it was time that we created this lovely blog post letting you smashing folk know what regular events we offer and when we offer them.

Acoustheque

Every Sunday night, Stratford-upon-Avon’s favourite resident MC Andi Chamberlain (Censor Yourself Music) takes to the stage and extolls the virtues of drinking (responsibly). After a bad joke or two, he lets the music reign freely.

Bands have travelled across the world to come and sing for us, and we’ve witnessed first time performers outshine the spotlight. College musicians have performed as part of their courses and blown even the most seasoned of us away, and many a young/old/everything-in-between star has graced us with their wonderful skill and talent.

There’s even been the odd bit of audience interaction (the single clap and Pete the Brass to name but a few). Acoustheque takes place every Sunday night from 8.30, and newcomers are always welcomed into what has become a wonderful core of regular attendees. Remember – tip the band, laugh at Andi’s jokes, enjoy the music and have fun!

Reel Big Quiz!

Reel Big Quiz happens on the first Monday of every month from 8.00. Your hosts, Laura and James (james.t@picturehouses.co.uk) present picture rounds, sound rounds and all manner of bonus rounds – remember to get there early to reserve yourself a seat, as the bar is sure to be jam-packed.

The drawing rounds have produced some wondrous pieces of art in the past, including our favourite, Darth Vader sunbathing in a bikini – so come on over and contribute your skill and knowledge. You’re in for some serious competition against the staff team who have their honour to defend – we’ll see you there!

Game ON!

Experience some serious board game battles once a month on the second Monday of the month, from 7.00 in the bar. Get down with the dice and play every board game imaginable. Bring your own game, or join in with some of the regulars who are all game-lovers excited to introduce newbies into the gaming world.

Boom!

A night that is so awesome and otherworldly that we’re left struggling to find the right kind of words to describe it… a night of short films, animations, music, competitions and so much more.

Courtesy of the extremely talented (and rather handsome) Brothers McLeod, Boom! is a night to discover the wonders of the Internet and short films alike. You could also win some mega prizes, ranging from original pieces of art by Greg McLeod himself, to craft ale, books and meals out. For dates and times, please refer to the main Facebook page.

Stratford Clicks

Stratford Clicks were established in 2014, sprouting from an idea to bring together current films, the local community, photography… and beer. Under the direction of Charlie Budd (charliebudd@hotmail.co.uk), this local photography group are made up of beginners to established professionals, with newcomers always welcome. Taking inspiration from an upcoming film and creating an exhibition based on the themes or title of the release, the group fill our walls with magnificent artwork. Why not pop in and admire the current display?

Our bar is available for private hires, so whether you want to celebrate a birthday, anniversary or simply throw a party for no reason whatsoever, get in touch with us for more information at stratfordonavon@picturehouses.co.uk

We’d like to think that all in all, this blog proves that our bar has so much to offer you, and we’re excited to be able to share these experiences with you. Pop in to visit us anytime – you do not need a film ticket to enjoy our bar.
