In a surprisingly perfect match, Richard E. Grant and Melissa McCarthy sparkle throughout this tender tale of the late Lee Israel – a fledgeling biographer who discovers a flair for forgery. Channelling the wit of famed writers such as Nora Ephron and Dorothy Parker, Israel wrenched herself from financial woe by forging letters with the help of her sidekick and fellow drinking buddy Jack Hock (played magnificently by Grant).
In a somewhat uncharacteristic stride, Mcarthy juggles humour and drama and has already picked up a BAFTA nomination for Best Actress alongside a nod for Best Actor for Richard E Grant. We talked typecasting, female comedians and the one item that best describes them for this special edition podcast for Can You Ever Forgive Me. (Directed by Marielle Heller) Listen now!
