Was it an accident? Was it suicide? Loving Vincent explores one of art’s great mysteries via the world’s first fully oil painted feature film. A labour of love only begins to describe the heft gone into this remarkable film. Using the work of 125 oil-painters making up the 65,000 hypnotic frames by hand, this unique telling of Van Gogh’s illusive life is perhaps the most immersive experience of the notorious French artist using the elegant score composed and arranged by Grammy nominee Clint Mansell (Black Swan).
Beginning a year after his demise, this portrait of the artist is built via a series of interviews conducted by Armand Roulin – a regular model for the artist’s portraits – who becomes obsessed with Van Gogh’s death. Starring Douglas Booth, Jerome Flynn, Chris O’Dowd, Oscar-nominee Saoirse Ronan, Aidan Turner, Helen McCrory, Eleanor Tomlinson and John Sessions, this live premiere will be followed up by a Q&A from the directors Dorota Kobiela, Hugh Welchman, members of the cast, and special guests.
This one night only event will be broadcasted live by the National Gallery during the BFI’s London Film Festival.Book now
